Uterine polyps are growths attached to the inner lining of the uterus that extends into the uterine cavity. The proliferation of cells in the lining of the uterus (endometrium) leads to the formation of uterine polyps, also called endometrial polyps. These polyps are usually not cancerous (benign), although some may be cancerous or eventually become cancer (precancerous polyps).
